At Pine Creek Cookhouse, Karinjo, CP Kanipe and Patty tried to entice Carol Nimick (second from left) to become their Waldorf teacher in the public school in 1990.
ever did. After four months and
more private and public meetings,
the School Board refused our request
saying sufficient study had not been
done. We vowed to try again – and
did, with an unsuccessful charter
school proposal three years later.
Late that fall, Patty attended a confer-
ence at the Shining Mountain Waldorf
School in Boulder where three leaders
of the movement, Rene, Werner Glas
and Eugene Schwartz lectured. When
Eugene agreed to speak in Aspen,
too, (He loved to ski!) another lasting
relationship began. Eugene was a
scholarly and charismatic spokesman
with long experience as a Waldorf
class teacher and mentor. His lecture
in March was our first successful fund-
raising effort.
