Gestation
Our gestation was brief, perhaps too
brief to bring forth the perfect body
for a school that needed so many
helping hands and feet, fingers and
toes. But fools rush in and we who
founded the school wanted to give
our own and many other school-age
children the best. For us, it could only
be a Waldorf education. We cannot
say in what spiritual realm the mar-
riage that brought us all together
took place, but the first flutter of the
heartbeat to be heard in the wider
community was a workshop organized
by Karinjo DeVore. In July of 1990,
Merlyn and Rene Querido, respec-
tively teacher and director at Rudolf
Steiner College in Sacramento, were
in Aspen for the Aspen Music
Festival and Karinjo asked if they
would conduct a workshop.
